Today i m posting my all time favorite
snacks aloo chop....This is a very common & most preferable snack in odisha....
In Chennai, we can get aloo banda but the stuffing of aloo is very less amount....Its taste also totally different not like odisha....so i really missed this...So, i have decided to make it in my home like odisha chop....the outcome was also very good...
so lets go to the recipe....
INGREDIENTS:
For the batter(outer layer of aloo chop):
- Besan/gram flour- 1 cup.
- Red chili powder- 1/2 tsp.
- Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp.
- Eno fruit salt-1/2 tsp.
- Salt to taste.
- Oil for deep frying.
For the stuffing:
- Medium size Potato-3-4.
- Dry peas-a handful.(optional)
- Roasted peanut-2 tbsp. *remove the outer skin.
- Onion-1(Chopped).
- Ginger-garlic crushed-1 tbsp each. * u can also take gg paste instead of crushed gg.
- Green chili-1 (chopped).
- Coriander leaves-2 tbsp.
- Kasturi methi-1 tsp.
- Cumin seeds-1 tsp.
- Refined oil-2 tbsp.
- Salt to taste.
Method:

- Soak some dry peas 3- 4 hour & cut the potato into halves.Take a pressure cooker,add the soaked peas,potato & salt,pressure cook it for 1-2 whistle,make sure that it is soft,then remove it from pressure cooker,remove the outer skin of potato & mash it & mix it with boiled peas.
- Heat oil in a pan,add cumin seed,let it splutter,add chopped onion,saute it for 1 min,then add crushed ginger & garlic,green chili.
- Then add turmeric powder,mashed potato,kasturi methi & roasted peanut,mix it well & fry it for 2 min.Lastly add some coriander leaves,mix it & fry it for another 1 min.Stuff is ready,lei it cool.
- In meantime,let prepare the batter.Take a bowl,add gram flour,chili powder,turmeric powder,eno & salt,mix it well,then add water little by little & make it a thick batter without any lumps.
- Make sure the batter should be medium thickness consistency,so that it can be coated over the potato dumpling.
- Now,divide the masala(for stuffing),make it small lemon size ball & keep aside.
- Heat sufficient oil in a deep bottom pan,dip potato dumpling in the batter & drop carefully into the hot oil & deep fry it until it turns golden brown,drain it from oil & spread it on tissue paper to soak the excess oil.
- Delicious "ALOO CHOP" is ready to serve.Serve hot with tomato ketchup/chutney..
