Its a common sweet dish in all odia family...it specially prepared in puja/brata...
INGREDIENTS:
Semiya/vermicelli-1/2 cup.
Sugar-1/2 cup.
Milk-2 cup.
Ghee/refined oil-2 tsp.
Bay leaf-1.
Cashew nuts-7-8.
Raisins-6-7.
Cardamom-1.
Almond-1.
(for garnishing)
PREPARATION:
Vermicelli kheer/Semiya payas |
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan,fry the cashew & raisins till golden yellow in color & keep aside.in the same pan add rest oil,fry vermicelli in medium flame in constant stirring till vermicelli turns golden brown in color & keep aside.
- Boil milk+1/2 cup water in the same pan 2-3 min,add roasted vermicelli,bay leaf,sugar in it,cook 4-5 min.add roasted cashew,raisins & crushed cardamom powder,boil 1 min.switch off the flame.cool it down.
- "Semiya payas/Vermicelli kheer" is ready to serve.
There are many types of kheer, I have eaten many, and this is not one of them, neither do I wish to try, Its so thin and who puts Bay leaf in a kheer. No one.
